God Is Not Waiting for You at 5 AM

God Is Not Waiting for You at 5 AM

I am not a morning person.

Never have been.

I could go to sleep early and still wake up dragging, snoozing the alarm five times, and rushing out the door. So for many years, hearing the message that I needed to get up early to spend time with God—and that somehow, if I didn’t, I wasn’t serious enough about my faith—put a lot of pressure on this very not-morning person.

I tried.

I really tried.

But call it natural wiring or what you may, waking up at 5 AM just never worked for me.

Don’t get me wrong, there have been times God has asked me to get up early to spend time with Him for something specific. And those moments did feel supernatural and filled with His presence.

But outside of that, those 5 AM wake-up calls mostly felt… sleepy.

Burdensome.

Not effective.

Not supernatural.

And honestly, not much different than spending time with God at any other time of day.

Over time, I’ve come to realize that God isn’t waiting for me at 5 AM.

He might be waiting for someone else at that time.

But it’s definitely not me.

The goal was never to force myself into someone else’s rhythm. The invitation was to find the places in my real life where I could pause, listen, pray, reflect, and meet with God.

For me, that might look like lunch.
An evening walk.
A slower 9 AM when I don’t have a meeting.

And yes—He absolutely meets me at Disney.

That is Selah.

Not a rigid schedule.
Not a spiritual performance.
Not trying to prove I am serious enough.

But learning to pause with God in a way that actually helps me be present with Him.

God can meet you at 5 AM.

But He can also meet you on your walk, in your car, during your lunch break, in your journal, while reading Scripture slowly, or in the quiet few minutes before bed.

The point is not to love your morning.

The point is to build a life where you return to God.

Wherever you are.
Whatever your rhythm looks like.

God is not waiting for you at 5 AM.

He is with you in the life you are actually living.
